Laidlaw Balustrades supplies to the Cochrane Building at the University of Cardiff

Laidlaw Balustrades recently supplied and installed structural glass balustrades to the ultra-modern Cochrane building at Cardiff University. The £13 million development has been designed with informal learning and library spaces that allow undergraduates to collaborate and develop modern teaching and learning techniques. The 6,200m2 BREEAM ‘Excellent’ building has been named in honour of Dr Archie Cochrane and provides first class teaching facilities for future doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals.

Architects Powell Dobson created a light, airy and stimulating environment with the structural glass featuring heavily throughout the buildings central atria. The glass allows light to travel down onto every floor of the building whilst achieving the highest levels of safety required for public balustrades in line with Approved Document K to minimise safety risks. The glass balustrades were designed to be strong and durable whilst maintaining a minimalist and contemporary look.

Laidlaw Balustrades is the UK’s leading supplier of handrails and balustrades solutions, supplying the complete package including site surveys, production drawings, technical support, manufacture and installation.
